How do Glyd rings achieve reliable sealing?
- Initial pre-tightening seal:
The O-ring is compressed in the groove, generating uniform radial elasticity, which, like a spring, presses the wear-resistant slip ring tightly against the cylinder wall, forming an initial seal and ensuring leak prevention even when the system is under no pressure (static).
- Self-reinforcing pressure seal:
When pressurized oil is introduced into the system, the pressure acts on one side of the O-ring through the designed gap, pushing it further towards the groove side and squeezing the slip ring more forcefully.
The higher the pressure, the greater the extrusion force, and the greater the contact stress between the sealing lip and the cylinder wall, thus achieving a "self-sealing" effect. This pressure-driven seal enhancement makes it exceptionally reliable under high pressure.
- Structural failure prevention:
The rigidity of a rectangular slip ring structure is far superior to that of a circular cross-section. Furthermore, when installed in a rectangular groove, it fundamentally eliminates the "rolling and twisting" problems that easily occur in O-rings during reciprocating motion, which are common causes of seal failure.
