What is a Sealing Ring?

A sealing ring is a component or material used to prevent fluids or solid particles from leaking between adjacent mating surfaces, and to prevent external contaminants such as dust and moisture from entering the interior of machinery or equipment.

Essential Requirements for a Qualified Sealing Ring:

1. Dense Material, Minimal Leakage: The material must be dense and resistant to the leakage of the working medium or substance, as the primary function of the seal is to prevent leaks.

2. Compatibility and Stability with the Working Medium:It must exhibit good compatibility and stability when in contact with the working medium.

3. Appropriate Mechanical Strength and Hardness:It should possess adequate mechanical strength and hardness, with minimal influence from the working medium. Common sealing ring materials include Nitrile (NBR), Silicone (VMQ), EPDM, and Fluorocarbon (FKM). Different materials react differently to various operating conditions. For instance, NBR offers good oil and wear resistance, while Silicone provides excellent high-temperature and ozone resistance.

4. Good Compressibility, Low Permanent Deformation:It should have good compressibility and exhibit minimal permanent deformation.

5.Broad Temperature Adaptability:It should not soften or decompose at high temperatures, nor harden at low temperatures.

6. Low Friction Coefficient, Good Wear Resistance:It should have a low friction coefficient and demonstrate good wear resistance.

7. Good Corrosion Resistance:It should not soften or decompose at high temperatures, and should not harden or become brittle at low temperatures.

8.Softness and Elasticity for Surface Conformity:It should be soft and elastic enough to conform well to the sealing surfaces.

9.Good Ozone and Aging Resistance, Long Service Life:It should possess good resistance to ozone and aging, ensuring a long service life.

10. Good Processability, Cost-Effective: It should be easy to manufacture and process, with a low cost.
