How do Glyd rings achieve low friction?

The low friction characteristics are mainly attributed to the "material division of labor" and "lubrication retention" design.

    1. Optimization of friction interface materials:

The slip ring is in direct contact with the cylinder and undergoes relative motion; it is usually made of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) or its composites. PTFE is one of the solid materials with the lowest known coefficient of friction (as low as 0.04) and is inherently lubricating.

The O-ring only provides elasticity and does not directly participate in sliding friction, thus avoiding the high resistance and easy wear problems that occur when rubber rubs directly.

    1. Excellent lubrication and oil film retention:

PTFE materials can effectively adsorb and maintain the lubricating oil film.

Its structural design allows for the formation of a stable lubricating film at the sealing lip, achieving fluid lubrication or boundary lubrication, thereby significantly reducing friction and wear and eliminating the "creeping" phenomenon of hydraulic cylinders at low speeds.
